A few nice Travel images I found:
Porta de Santiago (A Famosa) (#24)
In 1511 a Portuguese fleet arrived under the command of Alfonso de Albuquerque. His forces attacked and successfully defeated the armies of the Malacca Sultanate. Moving quickly to consolidate his gains, Albuquerque had a great fortress built around a natural hill near the sea. The fortress once consisted of long ramparts and four major towers.
Several centuries later, the Dutch drove the Portuguese out of Malacca and subsequently were themselves taken over by the British. The English were wary of maintaining the fortification and ordered its destruction in 1806. The fort was almost totally demolished but for the timely intervention of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore, who happened to visit Malacca in 1810. Because of his passion for history, this small gate (Porta de Santiago) was spared destruction. (Wikipedia)

2009 London - Stanfords map & travel shop
Whenever I'm in London for a business trip, I try to find 30 mins to spend at Stanfords, the best and biggest map and travel book shop I have come across anywhere in the world. Legend has it that after 9/11 the CIA bought Stanford's entire stock of Middle Eastern maps. Indeed, when I looked for Libya (see also my 'Desert' photo set) they had a choice of 7 different map sources. On most visits to Stanfords I end up buying some maps or guidebooks for UK walks or climbs, but this time I walked away with a new book by Tom Sheppard travelling solo through the Algerian Sahara - breathtaking photography of wide open spaces.
Photo taken with my 5-year old 4Mpx Olympus point & shoot... (like indeed many other pictures on my Flickr page).
