How to make maps of the wedding location?

Are there any programs to use for making small maps of the wedding location, hotels, etc?

I'd like to make a small map which would also include driving directions. I've seen some that have stars or other icons to note each site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used Photoshop to do a map like you are describing. Of course, Photoshop is an expensive program. But I think there are some free programs out there. Maybe one of these will work:

Try mapquest.com or google maps or yahoo maps. Type in the location to the main place (like wedding location) and then from a major highway.

Do you have Corel Draw? That is the easiest to use. Make it yourself using the major roads. No need for every little thing on there. They have Clip Art that has basic shapes. I just used a Cross for the church, a star for the reception and a little house for the hotel they were staying in. Something else for the rehearsal location.

I changed the line width based on the highway (thickest), the road the hotel was on, the road the church was on, and the road that the reception was on (all medium lines).

I only included the main roads I wanted them to drive on. We have an outer belt line. That road the hotel was on could be followed all the way to the church and was the same road the rehearsal was on--or very close. The church was right next to the beltline which was how they got to the reception. I printed directions on the back.

In the hotels I included another list of directions that was far more detailed. It included directions from the hotel to my parent's house, from the hotel to my husband's parent's house, to the mall, and a few other things they may find of interest in the area. I went to the Chamber of Commerce to get a couple area maps to put in the welcome bag as well.

I used google maps and copied the little map that was given and pasted it onto a Word doc. I sized everything and included the various directions. Then printed them out and used a cutter to cut them nicely.

A cheap and easy way to do this is to mapquest or google maps from the interstate exit, or hotel or a central part of the town where the wedding is located to the venue of your wedding. I think you can save the map image so then you could import it into word or some other program to add additional details, or you could print the map & the paste it onto paper that you have typed details on & take it to like OfficeMax & have color copies made.

I actually used Adobe Illustrator to make my maps. But I did not have to spend the big bucks for the program as I already have it b/c I am a graphic designer.
