Q&A: How much of a nominal fee is one charged for staying at on-base lodging on USAF bases overseas and state side?

Can you invite your whole family (like 10 ppl big) to stay at the lodging/hotels that are on base, and if so how much of a nominal fee is one charged while at that lodging?

Personally i am unsure but on the air force website it says "How does 30 days of vacation with pay per year sound? Air Force personnel can travel for a nominal fee on military aircraft on a space-available basis. If your destination is near a military facility, you can enjoy hotel-quality lodging on base for as little as $ 6 a night" and that is from the website now i know it says for military personel but the recruiter i talk to said your family can visit you on base in the on base lodges for just about the same low prices... if that helps at all

Stateside: Rates vary. 10 people ok subject to priorities, meaning that TDY personnel have priority on such housing.

Overseas: Depends on Status of Forces Agreement with host nation, except Armed Forces Recreation Centers such as in Korea or Germany

They might not be permitted to stay on base overseas unless the base allows it and you will sponsor them. There is generally a limit to the # of rooms you can have and the # of people you can have stay in them.

You can go to http://www.dodlodging.net and look it up, it shows both Air Force and Navy lodging in the US and overseas. The rates each night vary depending on location, from $ 50 up.

I don't know about on-base lodging overseas, as I never had occasion to use those facilities. I stayed at a BOQ then. One Christmas, my son was to have duty, so my daughter and I went to the post (Army) to be with him when he was off duty and we stayed in the Guest House. It was $ 15 per person per night. It may be different rates at different posts/bases. You may have to get several rooms (if available) for 10 people, as there are occupancy restrictions.
