Q&A: Okay, say I want to travel outside the US w/ my laptop--are there any special Wi-Fi accessories I should buy?

I know about having to get universal power adapter so you can charge your laptop in another country. But I KNOW there's got to be a catch for connecting to the 'Net internationally....

There's no special accessories to buy. Happy traveling, good luck.

No there is no additional accessory required. Make sure that your power adapter supports 110/220 volt AC. Dont forget to get a power connector as other countries have different type of power sockets (like India). Or, you may also purchase that accessory locally in the country you are going to travel.

Happy travelling. Enjoy your trip.

No. The WiFi standard is precisely a standard and it is world wide.

Other thing you should see is about electricity and you should check with your manufacturer if your computer can manage the country's voltage.

It rather depends how you wish to connect... through local WiFi hotspots, there will be no problem at all. 802.11 is one of those very rare standards which really do seem to be standard everywhere! The "catch" may be that you might not have an account with a WiFi service in the country you are visiting.

On the other hand, if you want to use an "aircard" - go-anywhere wireless connection using cellphone technology - you may have more of a problem finding a compatible service outside your nairmal coverage area.

Check with your present provider, and see if they have services overseas, or maybe partnerships with service providers in other countries.

Failing that, you'll need to do some research to find out how, and where to get service in your destination country
